Most robotic pool cleaner reviews are written for in-ground pools, with steps, ledges and deep ends. An above-ground pool is simpler: a flat floor and straight walls. That makes a cheaper floor-only robot a reasonable choice, but it also introduces questions about liners and wall types. This guide picks the robots that make sense for above-ground pools.
What changes for above-ground pools
- Floor-only can be enough. Above-ground pools have no steps, ledges or deep end to climb, so a robot that cleans only the floor handles most of what collects.
- Pool size caps. The robots here are rated for pools up to about 33–40 ft.
- Liner and wall type. Wall-climbing robots are designed for vinyl liners, but soft-sided and inflatable pools may not suit them. Check the manufacturer’s guidance for your pool.
- Power. Above-ground pools often sit in a yard far from an outlet. A cordless robot avoids running a power supply and cable across the grass.
For your exact pool, use the robot matcher or the pool volume calculator.
1. Dolphin Nautilus AG: Best corded
The Nautilus AG is designed for above-ground pools up to 33 ft, has an active scrubbing brush, a 1.5-hour cycle and top-load filter access. It has about 6,400 Amazon reviews at a 4.4-star average, the highest of the Dolphins we track. It cleans the floor only (the listing says it does not clean walls or the waterline), costs about $570 and carries a 1-year warranty.
2. Aiper Seagull SE: Best budget
At about $150 the Seagull SE is the cheapest robot in our database. It’s cordless, weighs 7.5 lbs, runs about 90 minutes (2.5 hours to recharge) and self-parks near the wall when the battery runs low. It has no app and cleans the floor only. It’s the right choice for a smaller round or oval pool.
3. Dolphin Nautilus CC: Best corded with wall climbing
The Nautilus CC is listed for above-ground and in-ground pools up to 33 ft, climbs walls with an active scrubbing brush and costs about $600–700. It has about 10,700 reviews at 4.0 stars. It’s corded and has no waterline cleaning.
4. Beatbot Sora 10: Best cordless with walls and waterline
The Sora 10 is listed for above-ground and in-ground pools, cleans floors, walls and the waterline, has a rated 300-minute battery and costs about $470. If you want a cordless robot that handles the waterline on an above-ground pool, this is the one we’d start with, with the caveat that it’s new.
Don’t forget the surface
Above-ground pools under trees collect leaves on the surface. A floor robot won’t remove them. A solar skimmer like the Betta SE Plus can; see skimmer vs vacuum robot.
